SUMMARY:Taming the Early Literacy Giant: Essential Foundational Practices for Success
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Wichita, Kansas for: Taming the Early Literacy Giant: Essential Foundational Practices for Success, our Spring Summit in which participants will engage in interactive activities to explore and enhance their own early literacy toolkit that will foster their teacher candidate’s early literacy beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge for future success for themselves and their K-12 students. \nResearch shows that many literacy approaches used in educator preparation programs (EPPs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are lacking in effective strategies and implementation of evidence-based strategies (EBPs). Often important foundational literacy skills are often not explicitly taught to pre- and in-service teachers.  \nThus, the impetus of this learning summit is to engage collaborative teams, comprised of teacher educators at the higher education and PK-12 levels, in thoughtful partnership to engage in program review and enhance teacher early literacy instruction.   \nParticipants who successfully meet summit objectives will receive a digital badge which they can share on their social/professional media platforms. \nAll travel and accommodations are sponsored by BranchED.\n \nSession Objectives:  \n   ·  Add to participants’ knowledge base and share available resources to support EPP implementation of evidence-based practices \n   ·  Explore opportunities and influences that will allow pre-service teachers to extend their early literacy content knowledge throughout their teacher education programs \n   ·  Apply the BranchED’s asset mapping diagnostic tool for use in assessing curriculum, field experiences, and faculty capacity to implement early literacy evidence-based practices \n   ·  Create an action plan to revise or enhance current practices as informed by summit learnings \n \n
