SUMMARY:Building Communities One Storybook at a Time – Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Promotores de salud, also known as promotoras, is the Spanish word for “community health workers.” Promotoras are recognized as lay persons who receive specialized training to serve as health workers in Spanish-speaking communities. BranchED’s Promotora Project joined EPP faculty and their partner community organization to support the early literacy development of bilingual (Spanish speaking) children. Participants engaged teacher candidates as well as their community promotora in ways to help families and caregivers engage children using dialogic reading strategies. Learn how each partnership designed and co-facilitated professional development/workshop sessions for implementing evidence-based reading strategies within their communities and how one team is expanding that work beyond this project.\n
